Moss Lake Camp for Girls at Eagle Bay near Old Forge, New York in the Adirondack Mountains was established in 1922 by Dr. George Longstaff and the first full camp season was the summer of 1923.
Holger Fuhrmann was a passionate fencer and instructor, as was his mother and are all his brothers and several sisters-in-law. He and three of his brothers taught fencing at Moss Lake Camp all seasons from 1962 through 1971 as well as at the affiliated Girls Preparatory School, Adirondack-Southern, formerly located in St. Petersburg, Florida. During this decade, they were also quite instrumental in upgrading and modernizing many of the Camp’s facilities and helped to staff the Camp’s Tutoring School, usually teaching math to campers who had signed up for optional classes.
Holger and his brothers all remembered fondly their time at Moss Lake Camp and were grateful for the opportunity afforded them by Dr. Longstaff to join the staff of truly exceptional professional instructors of the various sports taught at Moss Lake Camp that he so ably had assembled for many decades.
